Are any others of you fan of Rick Beato?

In this live stream, we discuss possible chord substitutions to use in Pop songs. These types of chords you can hear in all types of music from The Police, Zedd, Max Martin, Stevie Wonder, Earth, Wind and Fire, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Tom Petty etc.

Check out polychords and 4 notes extensions as subs

ex. Em7 as a sub (and any way you can play them) for CMaj7
Em7=egbd which is 3rd 5th 7th and 9th of the CMaj7 chord
Lots of info on this subject to check out and easily applied. Unlike when I had to learn it 50 years ago

I went from cover to cover in the early 70's of Ted Greene's Chord Chemistry book. Great book but kinda hard to sort out

Isn't that a rootless chord in a band context when you have a bass payer playing the root. Combined making a CMaj9. Sometimes revered to a Bill Evans' Voicings.

Holdsworth voicings and quartal harmony is my go to for chord subs. I’ve been doing it for decades. It used to be unique or”weird “, now I hear more players doing it

I just recently happened upon his youtube channel. Very knowledgeable guy. I followed a few of what makes this song a hit series. Amazing that he gets real raw tracks of these older tunes. He peeled back Kid Charlemagne from Steely Dan on one of them, great stuff.  I didn't even know he does chording and lessons type of stuff.
