Hi just bought GTpro v3.0 on loaded it on to my laptop which has windows vista on it but when i try playing audio i get no sound, i have assigned the sound card in the options menu and made sure that all the fades on up on the windows sound card, any one any ideas why i have no sound on play back?

I guess GTpro v3.0 is compatible with windows vista?

Im using the Demo file to test but still no look

Every thing works fine apart from no sound

Cheers for the help

Hi Jimmy and welcome.

Two things about running GTP3 on Vista. You will need to run it in compatibility mode and Vista is not officially supported.

In order to set GTP3 to run in compatibility mode go to Start> All Programs> Cakewalk > and right click on Guitar Tracks Pro 3. Select "Properties."
In the Properties Window select the "Compatibility" tab and click on the check box next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and in the drop down select "Windows XP SP2." In the "Privilege Level" section of the same tab select "Run this program as Administrator." The select "Ok."

One of the things I found in using GTP3 on Vista, at least on my machine is it only likes 2 kinds of drivers. ASIO and MME. WDM drivers just don't work right under the Vista environment using GTP3. So what you will want to do is go to Option > Audio go to the Advanced tab and select MME for your driver type. Click Ok and then exit out of GTP3. Reopen the program. and go back to the Options > Audio selection. Now on the General tab select you sound card. Set the Buffer Size to fast. If the play back starts to chunk go back to the audio option and increase the buffer size till the chunking goes away. Be aware that the internal audio card is not designed to handle pro-audio and that latency will be an issue.

I like others here recommend that you use an external audio interface. You can get them for anywhere around $35 to $200 for a decent low cost card that will reduce or eliminate the latency issue.

Hi, I just got a new laptop which has Vista on it. I tried following your instructions and got as far as selecting "properties" but then there's no "compatibility" tab for me to click on? It's probably me...but any idea what I'm doing wrong? Thanks.

What you are donig wrong is running Vista. No version of Guitar tracks is supported on Vista.
If it worked correctly on Vista it would be supported. Some people here will tell you that its possible to run it on Vista, but remember it is not designed fo Vista and you will potentially have problems.

Actually, my husband took a look at this, and it's running fine now.

Good deal, Gina.
If you do run into any snags, Doc and Steve have been running GT under Vista for a while now, and are always willing to help.
Welcome to our little corner.

Hi there Gina and Jimmy - let me echo Robert's and Doc's welcome to you both.

After a few of the inevitable teething troubles and following some excellent input from Doc, my Guitar Tracks Pro 3 and Vista now work flawlessly with each other - in fact, I also have GTPro 2 running on Vista, and even my treasured old GT2, which incidentally isn't supported in XP, let alone Vista, works like a dream in compatibility mode.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that most of my older programs run OK in Vista - in fact since I moved on from XP, only two programs I use regularly have resisted all attempts to get them to run - and Windows even told me this before I got to install them [Nero 6 and Adobe Photoshop Elements 2 as it happens, I now run Nero 8 and Elements 5 instead].

Just to emphasize the point, the "only thing you are doing wrong" is not trying to run GT3 in Vista, what you are doing right, however, is ignoring PistolPete and taking some of the genuine advice that's on offer in here!

Good luck

Steve

GinaG65,

I have the same problem you had. New laptop with Vista. No compatibility tab in GTP3 properties. What did you guys do to get the program to work?

Thanks, Johnny

Hi there Johnny - welcome to the forum

Did you work through Doc's post above - the filepath will take you straight to the GTP3 icon in the Cakewalk folder.
