Calling Ed (bapu) and others who own/owned a Line6 Variax 700 Bass, which are no longer made but pop up on eBay occasionally (yet quite pricy I.e. ~1000 USD)

What's your experience? Would you buy again? At what max price?

Anything negative apart from the incredibly ugly looks?

Also, I have a Line 6 Modeling Bass and a Line 6 JTV Variax that gets me "instruments" I don't physically own.

I got mine on sale (new) for under $200 at Musicians friend during the closeout. So natch, that's the most I'd pay for it again.

It's a nice bass for the models. Not entirely fond of the neck but it's passable.

With a real Alembic (1977 Series I), American P-Bass, Rick 4003 and my custom 5-String bass if the Variax died tomorrow I would not be too distraught. I'd just go get me a 1971 Eb3 and I'd be happy again.

I owned a Variax bass for a few months.
Listening to the models made me want to have the real basses.

I'd rather have one great sounding instrument... than 20 ok sounding instrument models.

Yeah, very true ... so I'll eventually have to get that Ric 4003 that's been on my wishlist for so long. only trouble is that these rics are such eye catchers that the missus will notice right away that there is a new tool in the shed ;-)
