hey guys, what's that thing on my console that looks like a gear shift? And what is it supposed to? It looks kind of neat but does it do anything really cool?

I'm taking it that you are joking -
If not that is your X-Ray bar that will reveal and hide your plug-ins etch...  that you are using with your project.

Nope. I'm serious. But....... just curious and too lazy to look it up. I've had this system for years and just never bothers with that particular feature. Thanks!. I like the main thrusters answer the best. I actually have many many hours on this thing, but never used that.

It's really for Front / Rear balance when surround mixing, and controlling video crossfades when you're hooked up to video edit equipment. The X-ray control is like a little extra thing they threw in.
 
To my mind, it's part of the over-speccing that held it back, commercially. A lower priced version without the video link features or the Fantom synth would have done a lot better I reckon.
