BASSJOKER
Wow SLIP...sorry to hear that...hope it goes better ...that is a major bummer.  This discussion has me recalling awhile ago I read/heard somwhere about how drinking alcohol really makes a diff in hearing low end...for the worse....and I know back in the day...now and then i used to like a few beers during stage time....and sometimes the Bass seemed to get thinner sounding to me though I always thought it was likely the room/crowd/soundman(clown) doing something silly....but it may have been me all along.  I learned to find the sweet spot though quickly as needed.   Ya hit it on the head Bit .....free beer will always make a good crowd too....lol

Best combination: mix completely sober but encourage listeners to smoke a joint before listening.

I hope coffee doesn't count!

Recently I have been stricken by a condition, and what it has illuminated to me is that the sinus, and it's well being, is tantamount to accurate mixing.  I have formulated some rules for myself.

1. Protect your sinuses.

If your sinuses are free and clear, you will hear in a different way.

I wonder if my frontal lobe implants change my hearing. Batbrew's guitar sounded like the scorpions

I'd nix the weed before recording or mixing.

Back in the day, a buddy had a really nice reel to reel and we'd sit around playing and jamming, all the while partaking of the vapours from the sativa plant.  It was always just absolutely brilliant!!   Always..... well until the next day when we came in sober and listened......then.... we wondered.....What the heck were we thinking or even doing?

Caffeine does affect hearing, whether that's adverse to your recording or mixing efforts, I cannot say.
