Monitors are subjective. All comes down to budget as you know. For me, I would go with ribbon-based tweeters on near fields and midfields for mastering purposes in an ideal world.

I've got the Focal CMS65s and love them. That being said, I also had great luck with a $350 pair of passive Tannoy Reveals. It's all about learning your monitors, and how what you're hearing translates to real world systems.

Have you treated your new space?

It's been said many, many times that you need to budget a similar amount of money for room treatment as you do on your monitors

Also consider the size of the room.

In a way it's almost a pointless question on a forum. Go ask the same question on Gearslutz...ha ha..
One thing to walk into a real studios and see what they use, and another to ask a bunch of home studio users what they use. You'll get as many recommendations as there are people willing to answer. You could actually randomly get replies from people using terrible monitors. How will they know their monitors are terrible if that's the only ones they've ever used.

Look at pictures of the meter bridge of as many professional studios as you can. Look at the equipment list which they always post in their promo.

Thanks Guys,

Let's see: I'll check out the models suggested/treating the room is next 2 do/budget...hmmm, I'm flexible but like to get near fields below 500.00/style: hard to say--pop-rock rootsy with modern ornamentation/room size: 3/4 of a 2-car garage w/10 foot ceiling/Oh....not pointless if used along with other types of info gathering.
