Really nice song Lynn! I like the thick harmonies that come towards the end. It would be nice to copy and paste them towards the beginning in the some of the chorus sections too.

Some type of melody on the opposite pan to counter the sax line might balance the sax a bit more.

Having the sax cut out in quieter sections and come in again is also an option.

Reminds me of Steely Dan and Pink Floyd. Great work! :)

Bjorn, thanks for taking a second listen to this tune.   I've received so many good ideas, that I'm starting to feel comfortable about this song.  I played this song several  times without the sax intro, however, I actually started writing this song based on the intro.  I wonder if replacing the sax with a flute would work there.  The flute samples I have work very well with MidiGuitar 2.  Thanks for sticking with me!

Makke, it's good to hear from you!  Thanks for having a listen and taking the time to comment.  I really like your new song.

Don't stay married to something that may not be working. I've had to whack lots of stuff before the end, even something as important as the intro that led to the song. It happens...

In the end though, it is your song. Do what feels right to you...

Regards,
Dan

Dan, I agree with you 100%.  I actually like the intro and plan on keeping it.  Thanks for replying.

Tim, thanks for giving this a listen and taking the time to make a detailed response.  Actually, it's one sax sample all the way through.  It's the tenor sax in Dimension Pro.  As for the drums, you're right about the snare.  I didn't want the drums to step on the sax or vocal, but there's probably a little leeway on the EQ.  Lately, I've been thinking that the vocal compressor could be lighter, so I'll deal with that on the next revision.  Good idea about the strings, too.  This is very helpful advice.

Lynn,

The vocals are sitting better in this updated mix.   I would actually push them a little more forward or maybe pull back the reverb slightly... In spots it is difficult to understand the words.   Very cool song, it all fits together very nicely.

Rex, thanks for listening and your reply.  I appreciate your ideas and will give them serious consideration on the next version.  I think if I raise the level of the synth pad it will help balance the sax.  Stay tuned.

Cool song, Lynn....   I really like how the overall ambiance ties into the vibe.   Vocals sound really good.

I do agree with the sax comments though...   or at least when it's the featured instrument I'd prefer to hear it more centered and maybe panned when used for fills.  Some of the lines are really nice too, the "guitaristic" phrasing carries over to MIDI really well!   Oh... and that trailing line at the end was a nice touch, just needs a little delay/reverb to drift off into the distance.

Steve, thanks for your welcome comments.  I put up a new mix today that comes from the suggestions I've received so far.  I put the sax in the center for the solo lines, and panned it left 45% on the fills.  I added a touch of vibrato on certain notes, also.  Plus, I gave a slight boost to the synth pads in the right channel.  After listening to it for a few days, I've come to appreciate this version, so all your comments have been helpful.
