I'm not a reggae fan, but that was quite good. Very well recorded and I really dug that guitar solo.

Your recording chops are righteous, and the song is terrific.  So dope.

I'm still not cracking the dark art of mixing though...it just doesn't translate to laptop speakers etc. I've been conscious of not letting mud build up during mixing and tracking but I think on smaller range speakers/ phones, the midrange just isn't really present enough.

One day I'd like to let my friends and family listen...and I just know they will listen on all manner of crappy speakers/ phones...and from their point of view what they hear will be a pile of.......

Anyway, I'll just have to keep plugging along. I can bring the range of the bass guitar up more to fill out the low mids in this song...same as the drums...and I can increase the volume and presence of the organ in the mids too. That way the vocal may not seem to be riding so high above the rhythm part of the song. And the chasm I hear on laptop speakers between drum and bass/ vocal and guitar might get more nicely compressed together and filled out in that mid range.

Hey, it's a good demo of your song -- the mix is clear and the vox are well balanced in the mix.  Yeah, maybe the bass could be "up" a bit but everything sounds good.  As to family and friends listening -- they probably won't be listening with such critical ears unless they're musicians.  (And don't most home studio mixes sound better in the cans than through most speakers?)

ABull...when you say the bass could be up a bit do you mean the bass guitar or the bass frequencies as a whole?

I meant the bass guitar but after listening again I've changed my mind.  It's fine.

I don't pass judgement, lest I be judged.

I like it, it had a cool reggae vibe, had the furry paws tapping and the furry head bobbing.

Was it a demo?  I thought not.  The mix translated well here.
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Wookie, they're all demos...that's what I say to tide me over until I get my multi-million dollar recording chain/ studio and encyclopedic mixing knowledge!

eph221...how about we just call it 'friendly advice'? Judgement sounds a bit extravagant.
