Good Morning. Maybe this is the best forum ever and so I try to ask you something not related to our beloved sonar.
yesterday I received my brand new MOTU 8M. I can't use it because of continuos blue screen reboots. The USB driver seems to be properly installed and in the audio drivers list I can see the motu in&out drivers.
Happens that as soon as any sound has to be played, the blue screen appears notifying that it was caused by MotuProaudio.sys.
I tried to install without firewall and antivirus and with no other USB periferals connected.
I think this could be related to driver. My PC is AMD Phenom on M4N98td evo and I know that the driver test are often performed on Intel chipsets, that are more used by pros.
I made the reset Operation on 8m and The firmware was already up to date.
I don't think it's an hardware related issue. 8M plays sounds very well and the control software works flawlessly.
I rather think it's a driver weakness. I tried to load two older release and I had different behaviours but anyway no stream from computer. This time no blue screen but windows freeze.
Using a laptop with win10 I get sound, even if with pop and crakles.
What do you think about?
Any workaround? I really like how this interface sounds, never heard this dynamic response on other gears.
Thanks

Most likely the 8M not jibing with the USB controller on the motherboard.
I'd grab a couple different 3rd-party PCIe USB controllers... and give them a whirl.
Relatively inexpensive solution...

I Just tryed with no success.
I'm quite sure that this driver has been tested only with intel CPU. AMD it's not supported.
MOTU states this:
Windows System Requirements
  • 1 GHz Pentium-based PC compatible or faster
  • 2 GB RAM; 4 GB or more recommended
  • Windows 7, 8 or 10
  • Available USB 2.0 or 3.0 port
  • Available Ethernet port for firmware updates
  • A large hard drive (at least 500 GB for recording)

Make sure your firmware and drivers are the latest.  MotU doesn't always ship units with the latest firmware and their links on their webpage have been known to take you to older drivers.

You should also email MOTU support. They are usually responding fast and are very helpful...
