I'm thinking about something similar to drum maps that will allow you to create the symbols for articulated parts when using VSTIs like Session Strings/Session Horns (Pro versions) with articulations mapped to C1 and so on, etc. Marcato (mapped to whatever) would resolve to ^, staccato resolves to *(dot), etc. Notating a part with articulations should allow you to specify the MIDI mapping of the articulations and the pre-delay (1/32, 1/16, etc) required for the VSTI you're using.
Once the mappings are defined, the UI should allow one to right click on a note and select the desired articulation.

For genres like EDM you could map hairpins to the mod wheel for controlling filters, etc.
Just a thought.

Taking it a step further and adding something like expression maps in Cubase would be awesome.

+1 for something like expression maps like in Cubase.
Many sample libs uses keyswitch notes to switch articulations and such notes are very disturbing in staff and piano-roll view.

Since Cubase introduced their vst expression technology, I read such requests over and over again. And still to date, Cubase seems the only DAW with such an feature. Really time to change this, Cakewalk!.

Voted.   A modulation matrix for mapping expression symbols to MIDI controls would be great!

Take it a bit farther: how about track subtracks?   For instance I frequently want to transpose music notes in a track, but do not want to transpose Keyswitch notes....  sometimes, vice versa too.

Ahh the Quioxitc quest for expression maps and such.  If I had a nickel for each time...
