Getting an 80s crash cymbal sound

I want to get an effect similar to a "thunderclap" cymbal sound you might hear in music for an 80s sci fi film, I'm trying to emulate the "cymbal" sound from 4.16-4.37 in this track

I have GURU and Session Drummer 3 to play with, would there be any specific cymbal sounds I should be looking for with these? Are there any free plugins I should check out?

IMO, that sounds like a China cymbal (as in style, not made in
), mixed low, compression applied, and lots of reverb.

To me it doesn't sound like a cymbal at all, or any other acoustical instrument. It's a burst of white noise with gobs of reverb. To get this with a conventional drum sampler I'd start by stacking a snare with a handclap and then apply a high-pass filter and a plate reverb. For that spiky initial attack, a woodblock sample (there's a usable one in the TTS-1) should work with appropriate filtering.

^ Agreed that's not a cymbal. You did hear alot of that sampled sound back in the 80's, which makes me think it may be and old Simmons SDS 5 drum synth.
Listen to the tom hit at 2:32, it's lower pitch than what's in your clip but similar sample.
