Driver installed and performance even better than before ... I now can use AD2 with e-drums at a stunning RTL of 1.7 ms!!!

Things to be aware of:
- firmware upgrade required
- the zipped installer at the AVB download contained the previous driver by mistake. You need to check the version number after unzipping prior to installing. Downloads from the location for each device were OK
- MOTU apparently added additional internal safety buffers which confused me big time since Sonar reports higher latency at the same settings you used before
- hence you need to check your optimal buffer settings again ... smallest workable buffers are probably lower than before, giving you overall lower latency than before

Overall performance was once again improved. Stable 1.7 ms RTL when using AD2 with lightweight FX inside Sonar, 2.7 ms when using Kontakt which apparently iw less efficient, both played from e-drum kit in real time ... now this blows RME out of the water for audio via USB2

Mixes including some heavy weight FX like WAVES AR Plates also work at lower settings than before.

Thanks for the heads UP Rob, especially re: the wrong file in the download ;-)

I was getting better performance too, then everything started to freak out a little. I'm sure it's unrelated, but SONAR started barfing over one of my plugins - in a few projects. It was crashing when trying to load them. Because of this, the audio started to go wonky on a few songs - I would change the AVB settings (via Web interface), then change them back again to the same setting and then it was fine.

I've gone back to the older driver. I'll make sure SONAR is happy, then try the new driver again...

I just ordered one of these from Sweetwater.  Actually, I purchased it at Gearfest but its backordered.  I am hoping it comes with the latest firmware already installed.

Dave,
The firmware just came out last week, so you may have to update it. It's not a big deal - you do it through he web interface. We can help you out if you get stuck ;-)

@jbraner - Thanks for the offer, if i get stuck I will definitely take you up on it.  My hope is that since they are actually building the unit that I will receive now (or did so very recently) it will already be updated, but who knows how new firmware is released to production.

Anyhow, I can't wait to get my new interface.

I'm still getting weird behaviour with the new driver. It is quite happy at settings lower than the last driver - but most songs have to load with higher buffer settings, and then I can change to a lower setting and it will work fine.

Example:
- load a song with Ultralite AVB set to buffer 64 samples, safety 16
- (most times but not all) either no sound (but meters moving) or it lets out a screech, or clicks
- change to buffer 128 samples, safety 16
- it plays perfectly
- now change back to buffer 64 samples, safety 16
- and it plays perfectly
until you load a new song...

I've logged a techlink with MOTU, so we'll see what they say. They were very helpful hen I had issues last year (2 driver versions ago?)

Hi John,

Did you get it sorted?

Hi Rob,
No word from MOTU. They were really good last time when we had those connection issues, but this time there is no word.
This new driver works really well, when it's "working". I'm easily running at lower latencies and there's no crackling etc. It just seems that sometimes SONAR isn't quite happy "introducing itself" to the Ultralite AVB. Once I go to the browser, and change the settings (and then maybe change them back) then it's fine :-\
