Unfortunately, I now have a totally unusable unit. When I power it up, it has a blank display and I hear a relay clicking and that's it.

Ahh, success!!!! I got the upgrade to work. For those that are wondering how, I followed the suggestion I received from SeanS on the Mackie.com bulletin board:

What it involved was using the Windows Media Player instead of Sonar to play the upgrade file (after setting the default MIDI port from the Windows Control Panel's "Sounds and Multimedia Properties --> Audio Tab"

I'm not sure why I couldn't do the upgrade from Sonar. I guess I have to keep studying the MIDI documentation in the Sonar manual. I clearly don't know the Sonar MIDI stuff well enough, as this should have been easy to do.

What the heck, it's working by way of a work-around and I'm happy!

I was able to successfully update mcu firmware in sonar by disabling the "sysex bank option" under options/global

unfortunately 3 of the faders are messed up, but thats a hardware problem.

Hola como les va? Me podrían pasar el upgrade para la mackie yo tengo una mackie logic control y necesito el modo HUI para controlar protools.

I have an MCU and two extenders (not the newer pro units)  My MCU has the latest firmware 2.1.2  One of my extenders has 2.1.0 and the other extender doesn't show any version on the display at all.  How do I get each extender upgraded to the 2.1.2 like the MCU?  Any idea why the one extender has no version number in the display? Is it a version 1 or something that needs a chip replaced in order to upgrade?

With the MCU you can only update to version 2.1.2 no higher.  
 
It does update, but it takes several tries be patient.
