You may be too young to remember this 70's sitcom, but it was truly one of the greatest shows of its era. I've long wished somebody like Netflix would pick up the old shows and re-run them. But strangely, nobody has done that. You can't even buy the complete series on disk.

Today I found out why...

And for those who've never seen the show, here's a taste:

I didn't have time to watch the video, but I assume this has something to do with rights for music used on the show.

We have the same problem with one of the most brilliant TV dramas of all time, the three-season (and tragically all too short) series American Dreams.  They had all kinds of current (for the time) groups on impersonating bands (like the early Kinks) from the days of American bandstand.  Season 1 was released on DVD but seasons 2 and 3 will probably never see the light of day.

P.S.  I totally agree that WKRP was a unique and wonderful creation.

Ain't nothing better than a live turkey for Thanksgiving.  Love that show.  MeTV is an over-the-air (OTA) subchannel showing reruns.  Click the link and at the top of the web page there is a place to change locations and find out if a station in your area has Me TV.

On "Wheel of Fortune" yesterday, the toss-up clue was '1970s TV Show'.
The contestants got all the way to W_RP IN CINCINNATI and couldn't solve it.
One of them said, "Warp in Cincinnati".
Kids these days.

I was too young and we only had access to 1 1/2 channels in French when I was a kid, but I remember catching a couple of episodes in the late 90s or early 2000s back in Canada and the show made a lasting impression on me. I always hoped I could watch the whole series someday. Seems like this is not likely to happen anytime soon...

Too bad it also was not among the dozen of classic American TV shows I finally got acquainted with last year while I was stuck in the hospital - everything form I Love Lucy to Cheers and Frasier (which I promised myself to watch someday)...

The music that is missing from the reruns is disappointing. There was one on the other day where they had to overdub a spoken lyric. "Hold me closer tiny dancer" was horribly changed.

A case of greed perhaps? The show becomes a hit and music play-right costs skyrocket. Now the greedy get nothing. Serves them right.
