I opened up an older project with a drum track, drum map, etc. After moving the splitter bar to view both panes, I can only see the notes in the drum map pane - the "keyboard" pane is empty! This is not good. Clicking in the Note pane does not change things, still blank.

Hi Colin (great name btw)!

Well I'm glad it's not just me.

This is not good at all.
Tempted to rollback to the version before this "feature" was introduced.

Hmm. I get the same result in Producer X3 and Producer X2: If I use a drum map, the piano roll empties out of notes and I only see the hits in the drum pane.

So now I am wondering if I am crazy for remembering it working at one point.
But clearly you do remember it working:
>> The map would live happily above the actual note pane and both were visible at the same time

So I'm guessing this was an earlier version of Platinum.
Just for fun I rolled back to 23.4 (April 2017 release) which is the earliest release I still have in my installs folder.

Oh goodness, 23.4 is the one with the magically zoomed-in PRV... Yeah, I don't see it working here either.
I'm not doing anything special, just creating a midi drum track that uses a drum map to talk to Addictive Drums, and then throwing up the PRV on the MIDI track and opening the pane splitter.

Having tested this, I'm going to go back to 23.8.

Well done you for persevering with this.

It was DEFINITELY working at some point in Splat - both set of notes were visible and editable at the same time but somewhere along the line this broke.

It works on the versions before introducing the new PRV. The last version before new PRV was 23.2.0.45 (February 2017) which is what I'm currently using (rolled back to it immediately because it broke my workflow as I use keyswitches in Drum Pane a lot and because of other broken thing- every time you start the project you have to highlight the tracks for content visibility again because they default to invisible so you have to do it again and again every time you re-open the project which is really pain if you have multiple locked tabs).

In the February 2017 version (and earlier) I can write notes in both panes immediately without anything disappearing and without having to click on drum track in the Track Pane first. Very convenient and fast and IMO the way it should work by default.

After the 23.2.0.45 version - you can't do that anymore. I'm sure it has something to do with introducing the new PRV. I thought it would annoy much more people, and that it would be fixed soon... apparently not.

Another, although much less important annoyance, is that, unlike Controller Pane or Track Pane in PRV - when you hide and show the DrumMap Pane (with keyboard shortcut for example)- it doesn't preserve the view the way you set it. It always drops all the way down and not at the point where you made the split with the main Note Pane, so you have to pull it up manually every single time.

I'm surprised more people aren't up in arms about this.

It seems as though only a small group of us work in this way, but it's seriously slowing my work down.

Resonant Serpent
I noticed this happening while playing around one day, but thought it was due to pilot error. When Craig had his "request thread" for future topics, it's why I suggested workflow advice for the piano roll. I've been using another program to record other people's work, and was looking forward to using Sonar for my own recording - which is my next project. Maybe someone can chime in about this? Is this going to be considered an actual bug, or is it just going to be the way things work from now on?

So... Bug Report or Feature Request? Or both?

Perhaps they found a situation where the two panes could become out of sync and causes corruption problems. Given that it doesn't work the way we want in X2 and X3, I'm leaning towards feature request, citing the fact it used to work in earlier versions of the PRV (much rejoicing) only to be removed in the latest PRV revision (booo). Probably an "under-implementation" would be the most optimistic characterization.

I'm absolutely sure it did work in X1, X2 & X3 as well as earlier incarnations of Splat

I like your "under-implementation" rationale!!

Then there must be some additional steps to allow it, because in a simple test (that I felt *ought* to work) I couldn't make notes visible in both panes...

Let's make it a bug report, then, but ensure that we have a solid series of steps to repro in an earlier build that shows the behavior we want.
