Can anyone tell me what he used on the song "Play With Me" from his "Wired" album?

1960's strat:

"This Stratocaster was a gift from John McLaughlin, who would often approach Jeff with various guitars and ask him for an opinion.

This guitar was the second Strat Jeff received from John, with the first one being stolen. He used it on the “Wired” album, and since then he keeps it safe at his studio, considering it to be one his most prized possessions. "

– Marshall JTM45 Plexi
Used mostly during the post Yardbirds era, probanly the amp he’s best known for.

Jeff Beck has so much talent that he can sound like he's using effects but isn't. His use of the guitar's controls and the whammy bar are amazing.

Yeah I agree. But it sure sounds like something going on here. I am thinking a ring modulator mixed in with the regular amped/miced guitar.

Thanks for the links gentlemen. I did get results from my searches, and they all were very interesting, but none about the sound/question I am asking about. I will look into these links later.

Thanks again!!

I just listened to it through my computer speakers and don't hear any effect on the guitar.
Jan hammer is playing in unison most of the time with jeff's guitar. Jan has a plucky, clean sound on the synth with lots of bends that complement Jeff's guitar sound. Superb musicianship is the "effect" they use!  :-)

YUP - I have to say that Jan Hammer playing with Jeff Beck is an incredible and powerful sound, and together they are MASTERFUL at laying out some truly EPIC pieces of music.

I am sorry I cannot offer any additional insight as to how he creates the sounds he gets from his guitars, but that man is absolutely BRILLIANT at crafting and coaxing tone from a guitar.

I was thinking of doing a work up of a Jeff Beck song called Star Cycle, if anyone is interested in playing the guitar tracks for it, I would work up the sequenced grooves they lay the melodies over the top of, and I would work up and record the keyboard leads, and likely midi bass and midi drums (unless real folks are available).  SOOOOO, if anyone here from the forums is interested in maybe knocking that song out, just to do it, I would welcome anyone willing to give it a shot.  Just shoot me a private message and I'll get to working on it.

The one caveat would be that I would like to post it in the Songs forum, and also toss it out on YouTube if all who played on it are OK with.

After listening to the tune... I believe this is it... along with the doubled parts by Jan Hammer.

Jeff Beck is a master of the whammy and a master of the pinky volume. One must always keep in mind that his Marshall is also cranked - so the variance he can coax out of a guitar with the volume alone is astounding. He is one of the most expressive and explosive guitar players I have ever seen live.
