Depends how big a jump you want to make. There is almost no upper limit to what you can spend, but the cost:benefit ratio drops rapidly over, say, the 500-dollar mark. Part of the reason for that precipice is that at some point the contribution of the speakers becomes dwarfed by the contribution of room acoustics. Past that point, spending more is an exercise in futility.
If you're flush, then go ahead and spend $2K to $4K for Focals or ADAMs. But prepare to be disappointed, because until you've seen to acoustical treatments for your room you won't be able to enjoy the benefits of high-end monitors.
That said, I am extremely happy with my current speakers from
Emotiva, which punch way above their price class. I loved my previous ADAMs, too, but they were stolen. My insurance company depreciated them so much that I had to shop around for something comparable but cheaper. The Emotivas, to my great delight, turned out to actually be a significant upgrade.
