What I have: Cakewalk Pro Audio 9.0 ; Guitar Rig 3 XE ; Windows 8.1, 64 bit operating system. My problem: I am unable to find Guitar Rig when I right click 'Effects' box in audio track. I do have updated driver (if that's at all relevant). Have searched web till I'm nearly crazy but can't find solution.
There is no "VST Configuration Wizard" anywhere on my machine as suggested by a document I found (in case THAT'S relevant). I am ready to scream, as GR is completely useless to me right now. My kingdom for the solution, or my heartfelt thanks at the very least. :(  - Jim       BTW, yeah I know, old programs/versions. But they worked fine on my old machine (fatal crash), and I'd rather not spend any more money. Times are tough.

Hi
Cakewalk didnt add vst capability until several version in of Sonar (Sonar 4 maybe?). I cant remember. Unless you use a vst wrapper I dont think you will get any vsts to work with any version of Cakewalk Pro Audio.
I think Fxpansion did various wrappers. Prehaps try there.

Good luck

Thank you very much for the reply, FZ1. I seem to recall if dimly that I did have some sort of VST issue at one point a few years back, but I could be wrong, could have been in some other context. I will investigate your suggestion. Thanks! - Jim

What operating system were you using to have those programs running?  Did you have the Pro Audio 9 VST Adapter Version 4.5.3 running?

If memory serves, Guitar Rig was originally released as a VST INSTRUMENT, rather than as an effect.  It wasn't until either Guitar Rig 4 or 5 that it was changed to run as an inserted effect.

I suggest you look for it as an instrument.
