I have an old version of Cakewalk that I can't seem to find any support for. It's Home Studio 7. The manual has a copyright date of 1998. I used to use it on my Pentium 4 desktop hooked up with a MIDI>Printer port cable to my MIDI Piano. It worked wonderful. I only used it to play MIDI files thru my piano so I could reassign the sounds and practice my guitar over the top. OK enough about the past. I now have a new laptop (making my MIDI>Printer Port Cable useless.) I now have a new laptop (64 bit Windows 7 OS) making my Cakewalk Software useless. Atleast so far. Is there anyone here that can tell me if I can get my software to work on this new laptop? And also do I just need a cheap MIDI>USB cable or do I need an expensive interface? Thanx for the advice in advance.

    I think the cheap midi-USB interface should do the job, the problem with onboard soundcards though is that they are not ideal for recording audio.  I tend to have latency and dropouts with the onboard soundcard on my laptop making it useless to me for recording.  Using my external soundcard brings much better results. 
    But to answer your question, Cakewalk should work on your Windows 7, I know a guy who recently installed Cakewalk 2.0 or something on his Vista machine and it worked.  The midi-USB adapters are pretty cheap at guitar center. I cant promise anything as I do not own Home Studio 7, I can only pass on what I have been told by others.  Good luck.

i went through something similar to this about 5 months ago..i used pro audio 9 for years..bought a new laptop64bit.and the old pro audio 9 didnt want to work so well..it did work.but my effects(dx fx)didnt work.its not supported anymore so it was tough.i bit the bullet bought home studio 7 from sonar and then i was hooked.i went out and bought x1 and living happily ever after.what im trying to say is...dont put to much effort into getting this thing working right on 64 bit windows 7.buy a copy of home studio 7xl for like 60 bucks and you will be up to date with the times.and its almost just like your old 7 version you have now.its almost impossible finding support on here or anywhere for those old dinosoaurs.
