  • Is there a way to map a midi controller to perform tap tempo? (p.3)

Agr... I forgot about one more Sonar bug... so no preset till tomorrow (otherwise not possible to make it with just one button).

I'd say Tap Tempo is a bit more basic than take lanes - but take lanes are one reason I'm trying to come back to Sonar! :)

Well to be fair, SONAR does have tap tempo; it just doesn't have tap tempo with a MIDI remote control option. However, there was a company at Summer NAMM that plans to make a stompable mouse for controlling computer things from a footswitch...seems like that would do it for you if it comes to fruition.

I think just putting a tap button on the control bar (like tapping the metronome button for instance) instead of it being on a popup window and allowing it to be remote controlled would solve the problem...

FWIW, an alternative to tapping tempo that I prefer:

- Disable Stop at Project End in Track View Options if it isn't already so you can run the transport in an empty project.
- Start playback with no click sounding, count off a couple-few measures in your head, and stop the transport on the next downbeat.
- Shift+M to open Set Measure/Beat At Now, and enter that measure and beat.
- SONAR will set the initial tempo to make the specified beat fall on the absolute Now time where you stopped the transport.

So, the way to tap tempo:
http://www.azslow.com/index.php/topic,379.0.html

It should work as easy as remote control with "dedicated button": start tapping, the dialog should appear; continue tapping till you achieve correct BPM; stop tapping (for more then 1 sec), new tempo is set.

PS the bug which has delayed me was introduced between X2 and current version...

Azslow this is really cool, but if I understand your earlier post I can't use it because I am using a Mackie MCU and a Mackie XT in addition to the Behringer FCB1010 which is used in ACT mode.

Correct?

PS: I'm continually amazed at what you accomplish - well done! :)

James, I believe you can just add it as a Control surface (AzSlows plug in). and switch to it when needed.
The link he left has all the info on installation and usage. (on AZ site).
he has a video on how to set up his plug in

But im sure he will reply here if your not sure.
Im going to try it out in a bit myself.

Correct?

You can not use it with Mackie, since I can not switch off functionality of original plug-in, so when used with two, the same control will have duplicated reaction in Sonar.

But you can use in with 1010, even in parallel with "ACT MIDI":
* insert AZ Controller AFTER "ACT MIDI" (that is important)
* in the AZ Controller, after loading "Tap tempo" preset (so the following modification is not reset), in the "Options" tab change "Block assigned messages" to "Block all channel messages". Then you are on safe side (controls assigned in "ACT MIDI" will not leak into MIDI tracks, in fact all MIDI from 1010 will not leak...).
* do not use the same button in AZ Controller and ACT (for already mentioned reason).

But in general AZ Controller can do everything ACT can (if you have time, read my "ACT MIDI Explained") and (much) more. The only problem is configure it, that is harder then with ACT (the flexibility has its price).

It is always fun to make interesting mods ;)

Not sure which "Tempo button" was mentioned and what is the goal.

I've used the tap tempo for many years. Most of the time it works fine, but I'd say maybe 20% of the time the tap is way off. Maybe like 250 instead of 90. I then have to close the box and reopen it and try again. Has anyone else had that problem with inconsistency? If no one has, maybe then it's my MS mouse
