REVISED!!

So here's my first crack at a REAL ambient / chill out track. I've messed around with 'downtempo' stuff but nothing quite so deeply chill as this.

Lemme know if you like this direction of if I should stick with the uplifting vocal stuff. I've been really into this stuff lately after listening to s.zielenga and Youth over at di.fm.

Hi Greg,

Sounds great. Why not do both types. No reason to be one type of composer!

On a personal note I think I like your ambient stuff better.

Yep this is a really excellent track. The way it evolves is one of the things i like the most about it, parts drifting into one anoter in a semless way and keeping the attention all the way through. I liked the little nuances going on in the background that would surface every now and then. faultless choice of sounds and the percussion was just perfect to carry the track along without intruding too much. I thought it sounded a bit like a cross between Arovane and early Tangerine Dream. both german, but from totally diferent era's and genre's. The overall sound created a picture of a glider, drifting in and out of the clouds, so an obvious title for me would be something like cloud drift. I don't think you'll find it surprising that i much prefer this to your trance tracks.

Great work Greg.

I like this track, you should do ambient more Greg.

Very very nice. Loved it. Great groove and great sounds. Love the bassline which fits perfectly.

The background 'rustling' however is somewhat loud and instrusive. I think it doesn't need to be so high in the mix (perhaps a LP filter would help too), and I don't think it needs to run the length of the track. Maybe restrict it to a smaller section.

Nice one :)

HAHAH! I knew it. Everyone is a TRANCE-HATER these days.
Well...no, but... I knew this would be the response and I'm actually likin' this kinda stuff more and more. Mellowing out, I guess. Old age.
Thanks for the great critique Blipp and Jeremy.

@ Blipp.... "CLOUD DRIFT" is great!! I'll stick that in the hat!! Do you think the beach sample with kids playin' in the background might negate the "CLOUD" in the title?

I did use a few of the AMBIENT fx from your latest sample compilation Jeremy. And you're bang on with that rustling. It's an element in the Dimension Pro patch that I turned all the way down but. For some reason it WONT become any more quiet...I'll have to check to see if there's some kind of funky prefader routing on that element. Otherwise, I'll have to hit it with a cutoff filter as you say.
Thanks for the listen fellas!

This is really nice Greg !

I loved that track you posted once " Night.." and here is another excellent one .

This is the kind of music you would hear on DifM and up to the par.

The scapes , the whole mode in this track is so well arranged and orchestrated.

I have to say in this kind of music you either make no sense or you impress.

This piece is impressive.

Now I have more than a voice saying that you really have potential in this kind of music and this could be your other side.

Greg, this is truly amazing... I can't think of it being your 1st or second attempt to ambient music, it sounds very professionnal in the production, and amazingly well composed.
I don't usually use that much superlatives to describe a tune, but this one is seriously impressive.

The only think I would have done differently is maybe the bass line... I don't find it very original... the idea of the sine bass is good, but the way the pattern is constructed sounded pretty simple to me... I'd have used some more envelope on the bass notes to make them fade out... that's really nit picking man!!!

overall, some amazing stuff... I'd doubt that Di.Fm wouldn't want it, seriously.
Congratz!

As Seb sez and everyone else intimates, you've nailed the style and have great production values, too. Interesting use of sounds that don't distract but add to the flavor of the track. And yea, new name.

I really like the feel of this one...the beginning had a kind of ominous tone, and then the drums came in quite nicely and created a cool laid back groove. This song kind of made me think of water...that flowing sound in the background sounded kind of like a rain stick or something. Anyway, great job!
