I think the drums are too up front
for once, I'm going to agree with my wife and advise doing away with the drums altogether
then it would really fit into the sort of music that Hearts of Space used to play before 'New Age' took it over

YAY! Thanks guys...this is great feedback. Very helpful. SO...here's what we got:

Markus Copol
This is the kind of music you would hear on DifM and up to the par.

Thanks bro...This tune was actually made at the behest of a di.fm DJ. My new friend, szeilenga, has been really on me to do this and guaranteed my acceptence there either by a) using it it one of his own ambient sets or b) putting in a good word to the station manager there. Di.fm played a big role in this tune.

the [bassline] pattern is constructed sounded pretty simple to me...

Um.yeah...you caught me. VERY SIMPLE. I'm happy with the actual patch though. And I figured there really wasn't a point in beefing up the complexity...simple is, afterall, a relevent technique for CHILL production. I may throw in a second bassline though...something to replace the finale. Thanks for the kind comments, your feedback on this genre means a lot to me as you well know!

And yea, new name

I'm open to ideas! PLEASE reply back with your suggestion! I may scrap the beach sample altogether. I was thinking along the lines of something suggestive of a landscape. Perhaps "Plains of Abraham" or "Wilderness of Tekoa". Both Old Testament desserts. Although what with the rainstick instrument...maybe a tropical locale would be more apt?

...and then the drums came in quite nicely and created a cool laid back groove.

...advise doing away with the drums altogether

Yikes...I may revisit the mixing on the drums Jan....but I honestly think doing away with the drums would slow it down and make the song naked. Thanks for listening and responding you guys!

imhoi, there are enough other rhythmic elements driving it along
give it some timeoff, come back to it without the drums and listen, just to find out

Sidenote: I just got asked to submit this to a DJ with a double time mad drum beat. Can you believe it? The guy wants a hectic 140bpm drum pattern for this! Now I've heard it all!

I think this is a good style for you. I like the drums keeps the track moving IMO. If anything I would add more hats and splashes but not speed up the bpm (It suited the calm atmosphere well). your atmo was pretty killer as it went through its shifts throughout the track, started calm than went to a more stormy vibe, reminded me of a storm coming over a nice sunny beach. nice track!

HAHAH! I knew it. Everyone is a TRANCE-HATER these days.

Hi Greg,

I don't think everyone hates trance......honest...Just listening now and yeah the laid back approach is good and is music IMO is for a different mood.

Greg,

You really communicated a chilled out vibe nicely with this one. I especially liked the slowly developing pads. A lot of the sound was concentrated in the mids and low mids but there were enough voices in the upper registers to keep things from sounding muddy.

Nice work.

Thanks for the great advice on this track. Made it better I think....lemme know if the bass sounds more "together" and not so deep and overpowering.

Ears are shot! OH...changed the beach sample ...now you get... A DESERT CARAVAN!!
