Although win10 is the "last" or "final" version, we will see more of this in the future because they have to phase some features in and others out ... so while previously we had to stick with winXP or win7 if hardware was not supported in the higher OS, we will also see this with win10 ... but I'm afraid it may be at lot less transparent i.e. hidden in some policy change that no one reads until you fire up your DAW and find it not working anymore after the last update ...
EDIT: but this is just what our ever updating world has become. apps update on a daily basis, firmware several times a year ... if you depend on rock solid performance over hours e.g. for live situations, you end up only allowing your system to go online once in a while and then start again to test, test, test, ...
