On the subject of Spiral, do you know how to assign MIDI controllers to its interface? The usual technique of dragging from the controller panel onto the interface element you want to control doesn't work with this instrument. Neither does "MIDI learn."

it's working for me here sharke... how about i post a video of it on the morrow?

Confirm here, crashing X3b with multiple instances of "Midi Out" VSTis.
It lasts a few seconds more than it would on X2 ... which is just a few seconds :-)

I'll log a problem report again.

Welcome to the vsti enable midi out bug....

Here is something that happened to me yesterday..

Project with 3 Midi tracks.
One is a simple instrument track using session strings  (midi is recorded in PRV)
One is a simple instrument track using lounge lizard (midi is recorded in PRV)
One is Jamstix 3.5 using enable midi out to trigger Addictive drums.  (Note : Jamstix used to host drum synths, now it uses built in drum maps to trigger drum synths using midi out, so I am forced to use enable midi out for Jamstix)

Everything works great, I mix, I re-mix I get things sounding just like I want.  Then I decide to extract the audio to a MP3.

Now comes the fun part, every time i listen to the extracted audio there is a weird high pitched sound happening through out the song.  What could that be,   hmmmm, sounds kind of rhythmic, I wonder if maybe midi channels are cross firing again...

I investigate and finally determine that for some reason, and only during audio bounce, not during playback, the midi from Jamstix is triggering session strings.

Of course that should not happen because I make sure after I am finished recording midi I always select 'none' on the midi input to these tracks.  So nothing should be triggering these tracks, and even if I do not select 'none', I certainly do not select Jamstix as the midi input.  And why only during bounce and not during playback ? WTF???

Now I notice something curious, even though I select none as the input, Sonar keeps changing the input to midi omni of the first midi controller in in my midi device list.  I change it to none about 5 times and it keeps changing it back to Omni and session strings keeps getting triggered by Jamstix.   Hmmm.

So I then select midi in to session strings as channel 6 (Jamstix is channel 1) and problem is solved.

It seems as some level Sonar cannot distinguish in a lot of instances between controllers and channels.

I do not know if it is the same issue or not, but I do know that 'enable midi out' on vsti's in Sonar since 8.5 has been real hit and miss.

Now we are getting some interesting input here.

I filed a problem report of this - and got the usuall reply - must be system specific, contact support.

In my case did not see the connection to midi out used on synths though. I always have the checked on inserted synths - didn't think it would do any harm.

Having my midi in to second system midi port, not the first one. Meaning second specific apart from All inputs alternative.
Just changing output to another synth - changed input to first omni(All inputs - omni).

A lot of these issues might be one and the same or at least related.

Do you mean the MIDI learn functionality?

yeah... note- you have to set up to receive midi first, like some of the other reaktor ensembles (see photo).
click the properties tab (checkbox) then the connect button, then under midi in/from selected devices choose plugin.

Confirmed here too....

Third Reaktor instrument is the charm  (or curse in this case).  Can run 2 instances of rapture / reaktor spiral all day long.  Add the third one and it does the same hard crash that Catanya does after about 5 to 10 seconds.

Not many Sonarites use Catanya, but I know lots of them have Komplete and can now see first hand what some of us have been talking about for years.

BTW that spiral is wild...unbelievable all the little things in Komplete that I had no idea I had.

Swamptooth - i could not get it to work until I added Reaktor and Rapture both as simple instrument tracks.  I thought I would add Reaktor as a midi track and rapture as a simple instrument to get the midi to route through.  That did not work.  Simple instrument tracks worked like a charm.

If  can get multiple catanyas and spirals working together one day I will truly drive my family crazy with endless, atonal one finger symphonies.

Ah thanks...I guess I got so used to the ensembles that I use having MIDI-learn active by default that I did not think to check the MIDI in setting for this one. Great, now I can go wild!

Another question: am I right in assuming that you have to route a dummy audio track to Reaktor to get this ensemble to respond to the transport controls? Or is there some other way?
