Jesse ScreedI am currently using Win 8.1 operating system.

If you OS is that old, it is possible you will have issues with the Microsoft Visual C++ not being up-to-date.

It was only replaced with Win10 2 years ago so it’s really not that old.
KingsMixOn a side note, any particular reason why you haven't upped your system to windows 10 (at this point)?

After reading all the horror stories on the SoundonSound forums relating to W10 and DAW usage I’d say one needs a good reason to update to W10 not the other way round and I’ve yet to see one.

Both Windows and Sonar have made a number of updates and changes.

I've seen the issue even exist on Win 10 machines that were not updated in regards to the Visual C++ piece.  You will note the update here on the Knowledge base was about a year ago, when a lot of people ran into this issue.

Alright then, knowledge is power.

I have confidence that this will all work out.  My machine is solid, and so is the advice.

I like the roll back feature, or whatever it is called.

Worst case scenario, I have purchased a Tascam midi studio 688 for next to nothing, so I learn how to do analogue!

Need to find cassette tapes though!

Regardless, thanks for all the WORD.

Go for it.

Like Bristol Jonesy I'm still on Win7 but haven't had any issues with updating SONAR each and every month.  Knock on wood (taps head).    But as Ken wrote you will want to update CCC first for its own improvements and just to be sure all of the latest available installers display correctly.

This.

I'm still using w7 and will continue to do so for as long as it is possible. It works just fine and tbh if CW dropped w7 compatibility tomorrow I would still be tempted to go the short term route and go with 8.1. I really don't like w10 at all.
