  • I can't bind keyboard Midi key to C1 to record. SOLVED!!!

Hello fellow Sonarians.
I've been away for a bit and now I'm needing help.
I am running Sonar Platinum and able to record notes form the keyboard I am referring to.

I am using an 88 Yamaha keyboard purchased in 2003. Nice model, but perhaps that is an issue.
Here's what I did:
I went to preferences and bound-the C1 (low C)under "Type of Keys"-"Midi"(circle checked)-"Enabled" (box checked) to "Record" and the Controller(circle checked) is 64-Pedal (sustain); I've also tried C8 (high C) key as the controller (circle checked).
I clicked "Bind", then clicked "Apply" and then "Close".

But, 1) Depressing the sustain pedal and pressing C1 does not start recording.
and 2) depressing the sustain pedal causes all notes to stop sounding.
Then, after that, I tried the C8 as the controller, the C8 key continued to function as a piano key and not a silent controller.

Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Ray

If I had to guess it is a mismatch between what MIDI note value Yamaha sends as C1 and what SONAR expects as C1. By default SONAR considers MIDI note 12 as C1. May want to check what the Yamaha is actually sending. You can read about the "Base Octave for Pitches" setting here

Don't you still have to Arm the track before recording can begin?

Hi Scook,
Thanks. I did not know that! I will try it when I'm in the studio, later today.

Hi Greg,
I do have the track armed. Thank you for your input!

My post about having solved the problem has disappeared during an edit.

Briefly, scook nailed it with this statement: "If I had to guess it is a mismatch between what MIDI note value Yamaha sends as C1 and what SONAR expects as C1".
Suffice it to say that one should be sure of what note numbering system your keyboard uses.
That was the crux of the problem.
Live and learn.

And right now, I am one happy camper!
