Yesterday I could not withstand the temptation to upgrade to Rapture Pro , and there was a problem during the download, so that when I dragged RP into a track I got a bad crash.  It happened every time (whether I used the vst3 version or otherwise).  Moreover, the stand-alone version of RP would not work, and it also crashed Studio One.  I submitted a Crash/Problem report, and the automatic response suggests I should not expect a personal response.

I then re-installed/downloaded the entire program from the CCC and experienced the same crash.  As I was about to shut down for the night I thought to try Run as Administrator" on the stand-alone version and it worked.  So I right-clicked the Sonar Plat icon, did the same thing and RP worked fine.  I have never had to do this with any other plug-in.

Any thoughts/ideas why??

Thank you,

Steve

With the newest Security updates, sometimes you have to run as administrator.
Just change it in Properties and do not fret about it.
When you update to Win 10 it will be even worse.
Everything needs to be run as administrator, until everybody complies with Microsoft.
Don't worry, be happy.

Only time I need to run as administrator is when installing things or running OS utilities.

To the OP I would try in this order...

chkdsk /R from an admin command prompt.
Rolling back and reinstalling
Running under a new windows user account.

When you run Sonar via CCC it will run as administrator and Rapture Pro will probably work ok.

However this is annoying for many reasons and one is that you cannot drag/drop files into Sonar. If you want to do that, you can hack around it by running notepad as admin (you can't run File Explorer as admin), choose Open File -> All Files (*.*), then you can drag/drop files from there. At that point it is probably easier to just choose File Open in Sonar (so much for D&D support in Sonar), but I needed to debug a plugin's drag/drop feature and had to resort to the notepad hack just to get drag/drop to work at all.

No application (unless it is some admin tool or whatever) should be required to run as admin but I suspect there are probably some reasons why CCC needs to run as admin.

I too jump on BF sale and got Rapture Pro the thing that save me for downloading RP was that I had the demo all that was done was to authorize I still had to DL the samples. It was a nightmare the DL was slow it did not pick up till about 7 hours later. From what I could tell there was problems with the internet in a whole. I  was able to run RP without admin and have been without issue even after the samples were DL. I would suggest uninstall RP not the samples and download again and maybe throw in a couple of restart of the computer.

Hi. I always reboot after installing something, and have had no issues with Rapture Pro (download, or otherwise).
I know this is of no help to people in trouble, but highly recommend rebooting after installing programs (out of personal experience).
As I am the only one using my studio pc, I install everything as administrator (just in case) since I had some issues with 32 bit plugins some time ago.
Best of luck.

A really good question.

I would go with uninstalling from within CCC. The things to look for is it may ask do you want to keep the samples I would say yes. Next it may ask do you plan to re-install RP I would say no.

CCC needs to be run as admin otherwise it would not be able to install stuff

I had no idea you could run the Sonar app from CCC. Best not to then for the reasons you explain (ie drag and drop won't work under admin, and technically.... elevated permissions increases security risk). In my view they should withdraw that functionality, I regard it as a design fault. If cakewalk wants to suppply a dashboard for running their apps they should supply a separate app for it that won't be run as admin. I would question it's usefulness though, that's what the windows desktop and taskbar is for.

I've not seen the uninstall option in CCC, just reinstall.  I'll take a look (different computer).  Thank you for offering the advice.
