Every program change would result in delay comp getting whacked out, requiring a PDC toggle in SONAR to get it corrected.  In other DAWs I had to deselect/reselect the 16x08 - almost every program/preset change.

I must try this. I was thinking of upgrading to the 20x20.
What is PDC and how do I toggle it?

PDC is Plug-in Delay Compensation.  You can toggle it by clicking the below button twice

Noooo!  Not a waste of time!  I can't get to the computer as often as would like to!  Please repost!  It might take me some time, but I read all these posts!  I'm still having troubles, but I haven't given up...

Toggling PDC seemed to work - at least when I get digital noise from the Dimension Pro or Rhapsody.  I've tried disabling the wireless a couple times, no help.  All my I/O looks like what JPeterson described.  I checked ouit the device manager and found and disabled a couple of audio drivers, but that didn't help either.  I can tell you that the Tascam driver is showing up now when I click the little speaker ion the windows taskbar.  I think I'm getting closer.  Wish I had more time to devote to this.  :/

remove post, waste of time I guess..

It may seem that way now, for current readers, but whatever you posted may help somebody else out down the road.

Sorry It's just sometimes on this forum you try but because there's more than one of us helping it gets real hard to follow what was done and even at this point I'm not sure what is not working.

My understanding was you were loosing the connection to the Tascam when you opened Sonar.
This is a common issue on some systems and the normal fix is to disable all other drivers.
But then you and Bob are going on about what might be an unrelated issue and PDC?? that lost me so therefore I thought my post was a waste of time because I wasn't sure my information was still on topic,, that's all.

So what is still not working?   It does sound like your getting things sorted.
If the Tascam is always showing in Windows audio settings that's a good sign.
Sometimes these issues are as dumb as a bad USB cable so step by step.  I'm optimistic that there is nothing wrong with the interface and once working you'll be rocking..

I hear ya'.  Reading thru this, there are several symptoms.  I didn't experience them all; just the latency jumps that toggling PDC fixes.

I'm soo grateful for you guys!  I know more about audio drivers than I ever expected to, but it appears everything is working now.  YaY!  My new anti-psychotic drugs appear to be working too, so we'll just have to wait and see.  :)
I think PDC may have played a part in it somehow, because after I toggled it, everything seemed to start working.  Maybe it was cosmic.  Maybe it was just some giant hallucination.  <-  Okay, I'll stop trying to be funny now.
THANK YOU!

Where can I get some of what you took?

Just want to (humbly and gratuitously) thank all of you again for your assist.  I'm sure it wasn't any one thing that fixed my problem.  Since the system was relatively new, some (major) tweaking was in order.  Apologies to Tascam for swearing like a sailor at them.

One thing to be aware of - the 20x20 mixer installs itself as default and always comes up in the tool bar - even tho I mostly use a UH-7000 and the 20 x 20 isn't even on.  That might be part of your glitch with another US interface.

Re: the TASCAM US 20x20.  All the US series use the same "in house" drivers, so if you have a problem w/ a 2x2 you'll have the same problems, most likely.  USB is faster - ie. lower latency.  lower than 5 ms for me, roundtrip.  Good sound quality, line ins, OK digital connectivity (although their sync settings are hard to figure out), flexible if confusing  "Total mix" kind of software.  A great unit and even better buy if you use more of its many features.
