I have Sonar Artist. Just got it, trying to get it to work. One remaining problem. I want to "play" drums on a midi keyboard. I set up SessionDrummer according to a video (from Cakewalk) I saw on Youtube. Each drum on a different track. So this is the thing. I can successfully record the drums the way I stated. I can play the tracks back and hear the drum sounds. But when I try to view the data with Staff View or Piano Roll View, nothing shows up. Every track blank, even though there's obviously data there, because I can hear it. But I can't edit anything. So why don't the notes show up in the views I mentioned? And of course most importantly, how can I view the data?

Have you recorded the audio or midi? You will need to record the midi in order to edit it in PRV. So, what data have you recorded? Also in PRV zoom out so that you can see midi data that may be out of view.

There are 2 ways to play Session Drums with a controller. Individual instruments may be recorded by hitting the notes mapped to the instruments (MIDI notes 22,26 and 35 through 81) . The MIDI loops loaded into Session Drummer may also be triggered by recording MIDI notes 24, 27 though 34. When doing the latter, the loops will play but only the trigger data would show up in the PRV. It is not clear which method you are using.
 
If Session Drummer is making sound while the transport is running, it is either playing recorded MIDI data coming from somewhere and/or the SD transport is setup to run when the SONAR transport starts (there will be a red box around the play button in the SD transport).

I don't know what is going on but here are a few things to try. 
 
- in the PVR make sure that midi track that has the drums on it is selected and not hidden or filtered out
- Try to drag the top pane in the PVR down to show the drum view in PVR
- Assign a drum map to the midi track so you can see the drum names in the PVR
- Manually click in the PVR to add a midi note: Does that play and show the note?
- Make sure you are looking at the right key range
 
Just some thoughts

I'm not sure what I recorded. I can tell you that, following the instructions in the video, I have 1 track which is the midi track, all the drum tracks are instrument tracks. Everything is in a folder. I have tried zooming out the views and still see nothing.
The question you asked is something I've wondered about. How I can I tell? I'm seeing nothing.

your midi data should be in 1 track only.
those midi notes will trigger your other tracks.
Right click on the midi track and choose: Views/Piano roll view.
your data is there.

Chuck, I watched your video. Looks like exactly what I did, although it's possible that I missed a detail. As I mentioned above, everything seems to be working fine except for being able to view/edit the data.
In any case, I've got some things to try from this thread. When I get home I'll try them. I'll report back with what happens. Sure hope I can get this fixed. I stuck as far as making music goes if I can't get the drums to work!

Just right click on the midi track and choose : View/Piano roll view and you should be all set.

Well, one problem solved, many more to go...
I found out, through trial and error, that the reason I couldn't see the recorded data is that it only appears if you record it on the midi track, not on the instrument (drum) track. This strikes me as really weird, because if I only arm the instrument track, and then record, you'll hear it but you won't see anything. The thing to do is to arm the midi track- then you can hear it AND see it. Another strange thing: if I arm BOTH the instrument track and the midi track, I get 2 recordings, but they are not in sync. I can distinctly hear 2 drum sounds for every midi note.

There are quite a track templates already created for multi-out Session Drummer. These templates use a MIDI track to host the MIDI clips and Audio tracks to receive the synth audio output.
 
I am not sure if you are really using instrument tracks in addition to the MIDI track when setting up Session Drummer. If so, that is not how it is usually done. An instrument track is a hybrid containing a MIDI and audio track. It exposes the MIDI input section and the Audio output section. Instrument tracks are not intended to be used with synths that are set up with multiple outputs.
