I'll be disabling auto updates and making a few other audio related tweaks , what other settings need changing or switching off to ensure sonar runs as smoothly and efficiently as possible on a fresh windows 10 pro install ?
Any tips or help greatly appreciated.

Perhaps check this. Seems to give some good direction as to what can be turned off.

My personal opinion,
To be perfectly honest, if your PC is powerful enough (I don't see your PC details or Soundcard specs listed) you shouldn't have to disable or do much. Just run it. This isn't the old Windows 7 days were we could do a slew of tweaks
(Core parking) and reap the benefits.

We are living in an age where the Processor has become very fast and can handle more than is thrown at it (unless you want to use it for NASA satellite navigation). We are not launching rockets in to space with our computers. we are creating music .
Run it !

The only "tweaking" I do with my Win 7 Pro system is I have the Power Plan set to High Performance.  Nothing else.
Resplendence Latency Mon does not find any problems.

I go off line (disable the Ethernet NIC) when I record (or do any mixing) which is a holdover from Win 7 days but even that may not be needed, as I've forgot to do that once and there wasn't any problems.

Technology eventually becomes the slowest cog in the wheel anyway. Going middle of the road gives a balance between high-end and budget-conscious.  Just my 2 cents.

Always think about whether the technology on the motherboard is going to be viable in 2 or 3 years time. That doesn't mean you should get the most expensive Asus workstation board however it's also good to look at prebuilds by other manufacterers who specialise and then base your buying decisions there. At least if you are planning to build and install the components yourself.
