Huh, Ok.

Thanks for the replys.
If I disable my sound card it makes no diff
2ond and 3rd launches take just as long from splash to progam as the first.

This is a dev machine so I don't play back much with this pc.
Just wondering if it was just me and, yes Ron, just you. :-)

I can also confirm the the 32 bit version of PLT launches as fast as a scalded cat.

I have it on my main desktop and a laptop both start up quickly.

I've never had a version of Sonar start up as fast as Platinum does... either from the desktop or launched through C3.

They seem the same on my system. It is too fast to do any precise comparison (I have a pretty zippy computer) but certainly not the 5x you are seeing, which I'd notice.

Could be an issue with drivers (as alluded to with the soundcard thing). Could possibly be caching, Windows watches what you do and precaches stuff in RAM so maybe it has figured out you like X3 but not yet Platinum. I kinda doubt that is it though, normally wouldn't be that big a difference.

At any rate it does look like it is something specific to your system, not just Platinum in general.

Well it's not ASIO4ALL
It's not any control surface

Today for fun I clicked on the splash banner and got the familiar "hung app" dialog from windows saying that I can wait for Sonar to respond or kill it.

I did not respond to the dialog and eventually that dialog and Sonar's splash banner cleared and the
main window appeared. - after 50 seconds.

Makes no difference to me right now I just am trying to help the bakers best I can.
If one yahoo like me has this issue it is likely to raise it's head elsewhere too.

Happy Friday.

Mine starts fairly fast. There was a couple times it took longer than usually to start up and I thought it had frozen. For most part it's snappy tho.

Platinum starts faster here than any previous version.

I have crappy comp (see sig.), but X3 and Platinum starts reasonably fast. I am not in the near now, but for sure it takes less then 30sec for moth. And that is only for the first time, next time they start faster.

32/64 and memory should not influence that part (as I understand, we are speaking about SONAR start-up, not project loading).

Some ideas:
* do you have some real-time scanner (antivirus)? It can help to let it check the whole disk once and/or exclude SONAR directories from checking. Or disable for test.
* do you have some devices which are scanned by sonar? Not only Soundcards (all), but also MIDI. You can try
to disable/disconnect them all.
* how full is your hard disk? Check there is no fragmentation. Also check performance of the whole disk to see there is no problems with some parts of it. That should have no influence in case you really haven absolutely no disk activity (HDD led is not lighting/blinking at all).
