But, you say, I need to freeze those tracks to conserve CPU. Actually, you don't. Render them. That'll free up the CPU cycles Melodyne was using, just as if you'd frozen it. You can then freeze the track if necessary.
It was my intention to Track some vocals and then come back to clean up and tweak the Melodyne afterwards. So I wouldn't want to render them.
What I will do is create a simple Stereo Sub Mix to a new Track, then bypass all of the other channels and track VOX with the Sub Mix and then once I'm done with the VOX I can go back to the original tracks for mixing.
I'm getting the idea that this is not going to be fixed anytime soon.
Thanks for you all your help.

Wow, complicated !!!
What i do : record/track vocals, chop them up into small (phrases) regions, Melodyne each region than bounce. Once you get into the swing its easy and quick. Plus, the fact i'm using short regions doesn't crash Melodyne. However, before all that i do clone a vox track just in case all goes pear shape.
IMHO only, that is the way to go. Effects (reverb etc) are added after. YMMV
