I'm not at my DAW, but I'm pretty sure you can use Gain Envelopes on audio clips.

That's Clip Gain rather than Track Gain.

And as was pointed out, maxes out at +6dB.

Use the Blue Cat gain plugin. Not only will it do +- 58 dB, it's scalable, so you determine its range. If that wasn't enough, it can be linked to other instances of the plugin on other tracks so that one gain envelope controls multiple tracks. And if that wasn't enough, the durn thing's FREE!
