I have SONAR 8.5 Producer and Windows 7 Home Premium.  I am currently using an older
EMU 0404 sound card.  Lately when I get updates from say Adobe I get screeching audio.  So, any ideas?  I can get it to work by "restore defaults" on the EMU 0404 and restarting the computer, pain in the rear for sure.  Any other good/low cost sound cards out there?  EMU does not have any patches that I can find.  Thanks.

All types of audio/interfaces. Just one place on-line where you can look, or at your local music store or wherever.

I am a little behind the curve here, does the audio/interface replace the sound card and my mixing board?  Do I plug in the audio/interface into the USB and then change the settings in the computer to default to the audio/interface and not use the EMU 0404?  Any help would be appreciated.

An audio interface can replace your sound card (they are synonymous), but, unless you can deal with using software (with higher end interfaces), an interface will not replace your mixer.  I would ditch the E-mu, which is outdated, and find a well featured interface, too many to list.

Kind regards,

There is a "Gear" forum here, with "Hardware" and "Computer" sub-forums, where you might find more info, as this forum's focus is on Cakewalk's own brand of audio/MIDI interfaces.

Seems like the problem might be with Adobe's updates doing something nasty to your system rather than a problem with your E-MU soundcard.

Is your E-MU 404 soundcard the older PCI version or newer PCIe version?

If it's the PCIe version,  I wouldn't say it's outdated, although it does appear that E-MU/Creative have halted further driver development beyond last year's unsupported beta driver release. More like "abandoned" rather than "outdated". Still a decent card (but only if it still works). For that matter, the older PCI version was also a decent card with lower latency than many current USB interfaces.

This might help.  It appears to cover both the PCIe & PCI versions of the 404.

You also have a beta driver for x64.  It's unsupported, but the 1212m version has been working for me.  I believe you'll need to also install the application on the same page.

Yes, these cards are getting old, but if they don't the job, why get rid of them?

OK, so I installed the Roland DUO capture EX, pretty easy installation.  Only problem is that if I open up Youtube, play some music/audio, when I go back to Sonar it says "Unable to open playback device.  Device may not support......"   Then if I open, Volume Mixer for the computer and go to Device Out and hit OK then Sonar will play music/sound.  Something I just have to live with or something that I can fix?

Also, can the Roland be routed to my Soundcraft soundboard so that I have more options for playback etc.?
