Let me be clear, I am a novice at music making. So much so, I am thinking hard about buying Melodyne's Essential VST to breath some life into my vocals. At a price of a hundred bucks though, it makes me give serious consideration to switching from Music Creator 6 to Sonar X3 Studio. Not necessarily because I will take advantage of all Sonar has to offer. But the upgrade price is very close to the same price of buying Melodyne alone for MC6. Does anybody have experience in both programs and can you give me the pros and cons of making this switch? I'm very interested to know too if Sonar runs better on a 64 bit operating system (I'm running Win 7 pro, 64 bit).

If you are going to by Melodyne Essential, the X3 Studio upgrade makes sense. Melodyne is better integrated into X3. X3 comes as both a 32bit and 64bit host. Although MC6 and SONAR should run equally well on Win7 64bit. SONAR does not have any of the track, bus, effect and instrument limits imposed on MC6.

I am compelled to ask what you feel is lacking in your vocal tracks.
While I do believe the tools included with X3 Studio would be a positive move(I am very pleased with what it brings to the table), I have to wonder if you are not fighting something fundamental.

The new Sonar 3 will run about the same.... you should get the interface issue resolved first.  S3 will not solve the issue you are having with the interface.
 
As far as buying S3.... certainly get the thing that makes the most sense to you from the financial POV.  It sounds like S3 is the best deal....

RobertB, my issue is that I sing off key.  I don't propose to be a musician / band.  Instead, I'm happy with the title of songwriter.  But the only way I can get my songs out is to record them, so others know what I intend them to sound like.  Thanks to the wonder of MC6, I can get my musical ideas out fairly well.  But as for vocals, I haven't recorded a song that doesn't come with a thousand apologies for poor pitch.  I tried Melodyne Essentials 30 day trial and was pleased with the results.  However, if you have any thoughts for me, I'd love to hear them.
