 It can be hit and miss.  I like WD Blacks because of their warranty.  I've owned WD Blue and two drives I had to RMA were WD Blacks.  One of the reason I prefer WD is if the drive is under warranty they will send you a drive, charge you for it if you don't return the defective drive.  I hate sending any broken hardware only to be out until the replacement arrives.  So I choose WD based on their warranty service.
 
 When 500GB drives were the thing one of my Seagates close to 10 years old started giving errors. Despite some of them needing a firmware update they were good drives.
 
 If these 4TBs are for external backup I would buy the best warranty product. If they are not run all of the time they will probably last long.  For internal I would never go that big because they have more platters.
 
 

I used to use exclusively Seagate drives, until I had a series of them under warranty - go bad.  They too had a great return - they would pre-ship a box with drive and return label to return old.
 
I then switched to Western Digital, but quickly found them to go South quicker than the Seagates, so I switched again to Toshiba, and those so far have worked well, with the exception of my current pretty much BRAND NEW Toshiba 6 TB external drive.  I literally used it - meaning plugged it in and copied to it, less than 5 times, and yesterday upon plugging it in, it is dead as a stick.  I do NOT care if it is a bad power supply or if it is the drive.  This thing was used less than 5 times, and goes belly up.
 
I would have to say that the Western Digital BLACK drives seemed to hold up a lot longer than the Blue, and they also I believe have a 5-year warranty, rather than the 1-3 year warranties of other models/brands.  I DO have 3 of the WD Black drives, and all have been running great for at least 2 years.

WD Black for me. I've been through the rest and found WD is the best for me.
 
I recently installed 2) 4TB black drives and retired 2) 1TB Black drives that were ~6 years old (4/2010) and a couple of slightly newer ones. They were still going strong but deserve time out to pasture after 6 years :). I'll move the newer ones to a linux box.
