I'm having a lot of trouble getting anything from www.uvi.net (they must be swamped) but there is a new 1.5 version of Falcon and a new UVI Workstation.

Video of the new features in Falcon:

Thanks Matt.

Might just be me but the new UVI workstation and Falcon crashes when loading Scratch Machine and Sound Platoon instruments.  Everything else seems to work just fine, but those two causes crashes.

Interesting video. There’s a lot of new features to like in this release. Let’s hope that UVI Falcon version 2.0 is a long way away as all the 1.x updates seem to be free for existing customers (at least this far).

Thanks for the warning. Currently sitting with a very slow internet connection I have yet to download both Falcon and Workstation, but as I’ve also got Sound Platoon perhaps I should wait for an update from UVI or possibly MVP Loops. Unfortunately Sound Platoon doesn’t show a version number in the Workstation’s Display Info pane (Falcon seems unable to show version number regardless what I do), but my "Sound Platoon.ufs" file has a time stamp of August 8 2014, with a size of 13,803,052 kB. Is that the same version you’ve tried to load?

The UVI Workstation update works fine with my VI Labs True Keys Pianos.
It also includes some free and very nice Falcon 1.5 sounds.

Be sure and download the Falcon 1.5 Factory Update as well as the software update.  There are a bunch of new presets (I'm assuming any preset with 1.5 at the end is new).  CPU usage seems still vastly too high.  Falcon is about the only synth I have that can consistently kill my CPU, wish they would improve that.

My version of Sound Platoon is dated 9/17/2017  (most likely when I got it, with some bundle deal I think).  It has a MD5 checksum of 84AC6E3F974A5705BCB098662182275F

UVI Support recommended I verify the UFS files but didn't actually address the crashing problem.  Both files verify just fine.  They broke something, but it is possible it is just me.  The new installers do try to install an older version of the iLok software (you get a warning).

In Sound Platoon the Multi Instruments seem to load just fine.  It is the Construction Kit presets that crash.  With Scratch Machine everything crashes.

The call stack on the crash shows just UVIWorkstation, which makes me think it is completely their problem.  I fully expect them to blame on me or my computer, unless it crashes for other people.  Lucky for me Scratch Machine isn't that important.

After updating both Workstation and Falcon I don’t seem to have any problem with Sound Platoon. That goes for both Multi Instruments and Construction Kits (with the exception of "08 097 Gmin" which seems to have some path error and refuses to load). My “Sound Platoon.ufs” file had the exact same MD5 checksum as yours so your file seems valid.

Could it have something to do with the new scaling feature? I assume you have already tested it, but otherwise - what if you turn off the OpenGL renderer and/or have the UI scaling set to 100%? For me the Construction Kits work regardless UI settings.

I am/was running at 125% with OpenGL, but even switching it back to 100% and/or toggling the OpenGL it still crashes.  I even rebooted just to check.

I uninstalled UVI Workstation 3.0.0 and re-installed the older 2.6.12 and everything works just fine.  Reinstalled 3.0.0 and it crashes.  Out of all my UVI instruments only those two seem to crash.

I updated video card drivers (I'm running 4096x2160 with an nVidia 980ti) but it still crashes.  I'm running the most recent version of iLok software (newer than what the UVI installers try to install) and my licenses are on a physical iLok 2.

I've sent as much info to UVI as I can, perhaps they will be able to reproduce it.

So I decided to look at this crash with a debugger again.  Before I only looked at the call stack, didn't see anything I could tweak and assumed it was their problem.  Normally I dislike debugging other people's code unless I'm being paid, but since it wasn't crashing for someone else I decided to look at the exact crash.

It's an Illegal Instruction.  Whoa.  That's strange.  Don't see that very often.  Here's the exact instruction:

vpermilps   xmm7,xmm5,0

My computer is running a Gulftown class CPU (an Intel i7 X980).  That instruction isn't available until the Sandy Bridge CPU series.

If you are running a pre-Sandy Bridge CPU I think the new Falcon and UVIWorkstation might not be so good.  The manual for UVI Workstation says Windows 8 but also says Intel Core Duo2+, which I don't think is true.  Or they are going to have to change their compiler flags and rebuild it.

Oh well, guess I'll have to roll back Falcon and UVIWorkstation.  I was going to build a new machine this year, I was just waiting for Intel to do something about the Meltdown/Spectre stuff first.

UVI put up new releases of UVI Workstation (version 3.0.1) and Falcon 1.5.1 this morning that fixes the problems pre-Sandy Bridge Intel CPUs have.    They also fixed a few other things as well.  If you use either of them you might want to login to your account and download.
