Assuming a metronome bus like the basic.cwt shipped with CbB
  • Create a new audio track, set the input to a new patch point and record enable
  • Set the metronome bus output to the patch point
  • Make sure metronome playback is enabled on record
  • Start recording

You can save some setup steps by right-clicking the metronome bus and choosing Insert Send > New Aux Track; the new track and patch point routing will be created automatically. Since it's a send you'll want to disable Input Echo on the Aux Track. After recording, delete the send, set the Aux track's input to None, and the project will be back where it started with a click track added.

Yes and it is possible to avoid creating a send by using the same process from the metronome output itself. The work involved in all three methods is trivial.

Not using a mixing desk? I don't know how people get by without them. It's so easy just to route the sound output from your computer to your mixing desk and back out again to record it.
