Hi,
I’m doing a clean install of Sonar Platinum on a new PC. I wish to install
all of the VST’s on a different drive than de c drive. In Sonar I can only change
the vst scan folder but not the vst install folder. Does anybody know if it is possible?

If you are using the CCC then click on the Cog (Settings) gadget top right and then use the Verbose Install box on the Options tab and the Paths tab to set the install paths for VST and content.

Thanks a lot Wookiee!!!
I couldn't react sooner. Ik worked OK although Sonar still installs presets and some other things on the C drive.

You can also create a symbolic link on Windows. It will "fool" Sonar into pointing at a different location when looking for the VSTs

https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/16226/complete-guide-to-symbolic-links-symlinks-on-windows-or-linux/

I moved all my VSTs to a separate drive (F), and added a symbolic link on the C drive (using powershell in admin mode):

mklink /d "C:\Program Files\cakewalk\vstplugins" "F:\Komplete 8 Library\vstplugins"

standard command: mklink /d old_destination new_destination

I did the same with the Cakewalk Studio Instruments libraries which are installed on C: by default.

It works very well.

I hope it helps

I reclaimed nearly 6 GB of space on my C: drive by moving the Cakewalk instrument libraries (Dim Pro, Rapture, Session Drummer and Studio Instruments) to my library drive. As described above, symbolic links make the move transparent to SONAR without any additional steps such as re-configuring those instruments to look elsewhere for their samples.

Non-instrument VSTs, however, don't take up enough space nor incur enough I/O overhead to worry about. I let each vendor install their stuff to default locations because it avoids potential problems later on.
