  • Odd project file saving behavior with latest update?

Anyone else having having odd project file saving behavior with latest update?

When I now save a project, Sonar is creating a new set of folders and sub-folders. In other words If I have a folder labeled "Song001" and save the project name inside folder "Song001", Sonar will create another folder labeled "Song001", with sub folders for audio, etc. If I save a different version of "Song001", say "Song001-B" and save inside the main "Song001", Sonar will create another set of folders, inside "Song001" labeled "Song001-B".

This seems to be only happening on project files that were originally created in Sonar 8.5 imported into Platinum and then saved. If I create a new project in Platinum file saving is as expected. This has just started happening after the latest update. Part of that update is "improved" project handling. Not so much for me! I did notice that there is a hotfix for the latest update so will try that.

BTW contacting support is an exercise in futility. I've been using Cakewalk since the 90s and have only contacted support a few times in all of those years. Their standard reply is to re-install Sonar but there always seems to be a fix without re-installing.

Thanks for any help!

This feature was added in the latest update. You can find out more in the Sticky thread. For the most part it works very well. To disable it you can deselect copy audio. Also if you are doing a save as... into the same directory, just leave the file extension on the end of the name or deselect copy audio.

Thanks for the reply.

"You can find out more in the Sticky thread."

Can't seem to find that thread. Link please?

"To disable it you can deselect copy audio."

That would not not keep the project audio files (in an audio folder) in the same project folder then.

"just leave the file extension on the end of the name"

Tried that before I posted and didn't fix it.

Thanks again.

AntManB
I'm not a fan of this change.  I never had a problem before keeping my projects contained within folders with multiple versions etc. but now I frequently find myself inadvertently ending up with nested folders.  I'm not sure what benefit it was meant to bring.

Not a big deal, just a small niggle.  Maybe someone can explain the big advantage I'm overlooking to ease the pain.

Hangdog Cat
That's been happening with me too. Not a big deal either way.

Maybe I should mosey on over to that sticky thread.

Thanks for confirming AntManB and Hangdog Cat. So I'm not the only one and yet tech support tells me to re-install. Jeez! I'm sending them over to this thread,
