Hey,

I spent the better part of the day today working on a new mix using Jonas' template. I must say that I am totally impressed and sooooo thankful that Jonas was kind enough to make this available. Working with it today has really opened my eyes (and ears) to some new methods (to me) of mixing and the results are fantastic. I don't think I've ever created a better sounding mix!

Now... I have a few questions.

- I'm surprised he did not place a compressor on the piano track. It seems to me that this would be pretty standard.

- Why does he send only the drum overheads track to the drum bus and not the kick and snare tracks as well?

- No compressor on the drum tracks or drum bus seems odd too.

- After adjusting all of my individual track levels during the mix process, I found that the Mix Left and Mix Right buses were overloading by almost 5dB (Peak levels). Consequently, the Master bus is overloading a bit too. Is it OK to reduce the levels (say, 6dB) on each of the Mix Left and Mix Right busses to bring everything down to a respectable level?

Thanks again, Jonas. You Da Man!!!!

Here's a question regarding the template...

Shouldn't the output of the "sub master bus (do not touch)" be set to "None"?

On closer inspection, I realized that the output of the sub master was being to sent to my sound card. This meant that the sub master output AS WELL as the Master output was being sent to my sound card.

So, it should be set to "None" right?

Hey Jonas,

Somehow I wound up on this old thread. Your mixing template was certainly a hit!

Any plans for sharing a new template utilizing the latest enhancements in Sonar?

I need to find time to get it to at least Sonar 7..and I have a couple of other crazy signal routing things that I've been contemplating unleashing on the world. Hopefully I can get around to that soon. I'm glad that the old template is still getting a workout!
