Jusr bought some wav samples from bigfish. Tried to drag & drop to an audio track and all I get are periods (see image file below) showing up in the track. As well as in other tracks. Tried to import as well. Restarted my computer. No luck. Anyone have any idea what might be happening? Thanks.

What is the size of these WAV files on disc? If you browse to them using Windows Explorer and then right click and choose properties, how big are they?

Can you play those files in Windows Media Player?

Did you look further out on the track. Maybe it put the WAV further out on the track than you expected. Usually the dots mean something is on the track, but not where you're looking. Try View-Navigator to see the whole track.

The top track looks like a MIDI track.

+1 to what Dave wrote. If you get dots on the track it means the files are further down the timeline.
You need to check (or uncheck :o) "Import Broadcast wav at their timestamp".

gswitz, the file is 2.05 mb.

daveny5, plays fine in WMP. Also will open (and play fine) in FL Studio 11 and Adobe Audition 3.01. The midi track in the image is the track above the audio file track that I am asking about.

Kalle, it is no where on the timeline, just dots. Don't know where "Import Broadcast wav at their timestamp" happens to be.

Thanks for you replies.

It does sound like a broadcast wav to me.

Look in Preferences - File - Audio Data and ucheck "Always Import Broadcast Waves At Their Timestamp" and see if it helps.

i had the same problem with some wav-files using x2b. only dots on the timeline. the only way i could import the files, was to save the files as *.aif format with an external wave-editor. then it works.

Kalle, looks like you were right about the "Import Broadcast wav at their timestamp." Thanks.

jb101, thanks so much for showing me where the above is located.

One other thing, without your help on this matter, how would a person know to uncheck  "Import Broadcast wav at their timestamp?" This seems like an important issue that needs to be addressed by Cakewalk. Especially when FL Studio and Adobe Audition have no problem with the file. I could have looked for eternity for a solution without you guys.

amGod, thanks for your reply. Was thinking about saving it as an MP3 before the solution was offered.

I have often wondered why it is "on" by default.  It catches a lot of people out.

Broadcast waves carry a timestamp to say where on the timeline they belong.  This can be very useful if, e.g. you're sharing stems with someone else, so all your tracks line up, or in video/radio, where everything has to be in sync.

I guess my question would be, why are the files timestamped way into a project?  Someone more knowledgeable might chime in with an answer.

Glad you got it sorted, anyway.
