Hello people,

Has anyone tried both the AT4033a and the AT2050 ?
Is the a big difference and what do you prefer and why?

Thanks!

I have a AT 2020 so not sure if that's the same as the AT2050.
It was only $100 on sale. It's OK, I don't use it much but nice to have for recording Acoustic guitars.
I actually use my CAD mikes the most.

I have the At4033a and AT3035. My preference is the AT4033a. It gives a warm sound. Many of my singers comment on how warm the mic sounds. I like it and it is my main mic in the studio. I use the AT3035 just to lay down pilot tracks.

I have an AT4040. It is great on acoustic guitar and percussion.

i use my AT3035 for rough vox and instruments. i use my Behringer B2 Pro for vox - nice and warm yet really clear.

The obvious difference between the two is the 4033 has a cardiod pattern, while the 2050 can be switched between omni, cardiod and figure8.

I wouldn't be surprised if the 4033 is the better microphone, though. Never used a 2050, but it looks like it might be a multi-pattern version of the 2020. If that's the case (talk to a knowledgeable salesperson - not somebody at Guitar Center), then I'd avoid it.

Can't comment on the 2050. I have the 4033a. It's a nice mic. Has some lift in the mids which can be a good thing on some vocals. Might not work as well for anything where you don't want that lift.
I wouldn't call this mic warm. It does make a decent home studio all rounder. Better than the lower end of the product line. The 4033a has a rolloff switch and a -10 db drop switch.

I have a 2035 and 2050.  Difference between the two, the 2050 can be switched to different patterns.  The 2035 was my upgrade from MXL microphones for my home studio.  I use the 2035 for both male and female singers.  It also works good for micing an acoustic (rhythm) guitar.
