  • Splitting Blobs in Melodyne

There are a number of reasons to split blobs into separate notes in Melodyne (as well as cases for removing the separation).

I often want to split the front of the blob so I can reduce the volume of a plosive.  Melodyne seems to have its own logic about how small a piece I can separate.  Sometimes I can do what I need and sometimes not.

Does anyone know what the rule is or how I can change it?  (In Sonar, for example, where you can split clips depends on the snap setting, if any.)

Fixing pops is much easier and more flexible in Melodyne than working directly with the audio clips, *if* I can get the split where I want it.

As always, thanks for being such a helpful bunch.  (Yes, even you, Anderton. )

Can't you disable snap settings?  Zoom way in, set the grid to 32 or 64 notes or whatever the smallest increment is then.  I watched some video that showed the guy splitting notes wherever he placed the mouse.

If you hold ALT while moving the split point, you should have complete control of placement.

Thank you, guys.

1-I do not know where to change snap settings in Melodyne.
2-I tried ALT and it didn't change anything.

Maybe I am on an older version.

Thanks.

Have you tried double clicking on the blob (where you want to split it?)

I thought pressing alt while grabbing a note separator was consistent in all versions.
It's a free-form modifier key for many functions in Melodyne...and yes that would really suck if they crippled that in other versions. I think that's crucial to a LOT of Melodyne work.

I am not my computer, but the time snap settings are under 'Options' and then under 'Time....'
The default is always 1/4, so I almost always have to change it. Now I would like to change the default setting.

You don't even need to change tools. Melodyne's main tool is similar to the smart tool. Just hover your mouse over the top part of the note (until you hit the Separation zone) and double click.
