• SONAR
  • Splitting Blobs in Melodyne (p.2)

Thanks for trying to help, everyone.
  • The video is just showing what I do everyday.  It did not really address splitting off very small segments.
  • To the best of my knowledge, Melodyne Editor does not have a snap setting.  I have set the time grid to the smallest units. Snap is OFF in Sonar.
  • The ALT key has no effect.
  • I have a license for the bigger polyphonic version and have it installed on a laptop.  (Long story.) Maybe t has more function.
I'll address this another way.

I see what you mean.  If I set the grid at 32nds and zoom in, I can split a note within that 32nd zone only two or three times.  Dragging the borders of those notes causes them to snap back or forth in set increments.  Looks like a 96th increment is the limit.

Added: I have the full Studio (with Polyphonic) version and so it is no different (result wise) than the (Editor/Assistant) version you are referring to here.

On my version, there's a 'note' icon (top right I think) that turns snapping on/off - I'm not near the studio at the moment so I can't check/screenshot.....

You are absolutely correct. Clicking on the note icon activates or deactivates the grid.
Like I said you win some you lose some. Sometimes I feel like no one is actually paying attention to my comments and that's my fault really. I blame no one but myself. I need to choose which threads I respond to and which to ignore.

Which edition are you using? In Studio there is an Attack tool. No need to split the blob.

I don't usually use Melodyne for this, preferring the greater precision of a gain envelope. Of course, plosives aren't always treatable with amplitude adjustments anyway, because they are concentrated in a band of low frequencies. A multi-band compressor or dynamic EQ might work better.

The bundled version of Melodyne is a like a frustrating man to woman argument, where Melodyne is the woman. It's OK for basic stuff or good if you having nothing else. I'm not sure a seasoned Melodyne user will appreciate it's austerity.

The "attack speed" tool bitflipper mentions is also in Editor. It doesn't do exactly the same thing but it might work in some cases.

All this is correct. And the alt key is supposed to temporarily disable snap to grid ( as per Melodyne's documentation: "Even if the grid is active, you can still adjust the position of a note (or a selection of notes) independently of the grid by holding down the [Alt] key as you move it."

Strange that your installation is not behaving this way....
