I went to Best Bought yesterday. I told the Geek master I needed to find what cable I need to copy the files from my old PC to the new one. The Geek master said follow me. He took me to cables and gave me a usb cable and said connect this between you old PC and new PC. He said find the drive you want to copy then right clip or drag it to the drive you wanted to copy it to. Well it didn't work. I found out that what I did need was a . When I took the cable back to the Greek master he said it works I didn't do it right. I asked about a docking station but he said you need this. I asked to speak to a supervisor. After about 10 minutes a Master Geek master came over and asked "Whos' the moron asking for me. I went thru the whole story. He stated they have no docking station in stock. I said I wanted a refund. He asked" who told you this cable wouldn't work" ? I said I looked up what I needed on the internet and the first thing was a caution not to use a standard usb cable between PC's cuz you run the risk of burning out the usb port. I told him then I asked the builder and he said the same and I actually need a docking station He said : well he or she is an idiot. This will work fine!" I said point me to costumer service for a refund.

The cable cost about the same as the docking station I bought from newegg

P.S. I've never denied being a moroon

How to transfer files between PCs without opening either case:

- The most popular method is to use a flash or external drive to transfer files (Copy files to FD, then from FD to target drive).

- Create a home network using your phone or cable modem:  Connect each PC to your modem/router via ethernet cable.  It'll prompt you to create a simple network.  Once you've done that, you can open Windows Explorer and drag and drop files back and forth to your heart's content.

If I was you I would share your experience with BestBuy corporiate.  The company seems to be sincere in it's desire to improve customer service.  It can't improve if it never has the opportunity to know about bad customer experiences.  The cable you need has a Type A connector on each side; however each pc also has to have a pc to pc file transfer software application.  Current software does but Win XP does not.
Here is an inexpensive cable:  http://www.walmart.com/ip/VogDUO-Windows-8-Transfer-Cable-PC/22800183?action=product_interest&action_type=title&item_id=22800183&placement_id=irs-302-m3&strategy=PWVUB&visitor_id=egSmlWEMIS1JKQGJg2sHMw&category=&client_guid=f9476f91-9660-42bd-81e3-dadd59ee2592&customer_id_enc=&config_id=302&parent_item_id=14151218&parent_anchor_item_id=14151218&guid=8d46df6c-8c14-495b-941c-2a696b3a0b18&bucket_id=irsbucketdefault&beacon_version=1.0.1&findingMethod=p13n

Thank you Jim! I talked about that very same cable with him. I just noticed that sentence was cut off.
" I found out that what I did need was a . " It should have added VogDUO Transfer cable.
His answer was "No that's not true" and they didn't have that type of cable in stock

Btw, I found out about that particular cable because the manager of the electronics dept. at Walmart  was the drummer in the last band I played with.

The Geek Squad solution seems like it was from a Mac user.
While not cheap a network crossover cable would have worked.

I prefer to do a lot of research before I seek help from a retail outlet.  I'm that way with Guitar Center as well. I prefer to go in knowing what I want instead of them knowing what they want.

a Master Geek master came over and asked "Whos' the moron asking for me.

Did that really happen?  I find that incredible. That's a phone call to the corporate office, major facebook bash on your page and theirs.  I would not let that go even if it was meant for the associate.
