  • What Do Layouts Save, and How Do I?

I'm actually not even sure if "Layout" is the feature I'm talking about.  What's bugging me is everytime I open Platinum I get a tile that has the Console at the bottom, so I have to click the "X" on that tile.  So, is that a layout, and if so, how do I save that iteration.  Could it also be Screenshot?

Thanks,
KC

Click X to close it, Then lock the screenset.
If you are using Lenses... that's a different story.

There are Screensets and recently Lenses were added as a means to fix screen elements to recallable presets. Worth reading up on in the manuals and the ezine.

If you're talking about opening Sonar and starting a new project, you can setup and modify your opening layout the way you want it, then save it as "normal.cwt" in your Cakewalk Templates folder. This will overwrite the original one and your initial new project template will be the way you like it.

then save it as "normal.cwt" in your Cakewalk Templates folder

Current versions of SONAR no longer require the default template be named normal.cwt. The New Project dialog and Start Screen provide ways to designate any project template as the default template. I believe SONAR ships with the default set to Basic.cwt.

There are so many different parts of sonar that can be saved as a "layout". There are project templates, track templates, the pro channel, screen sets, lenses etc. Further more multiple versions can be saved so you can have your default and different versions for different tasks, and switching between them is easy. It is well worth studying the manual and learning it all. Being able to have things just as you like them really helps you create your work environment, workflow and hence creativity. I find lenses are particularly powerful as they save a lot of GUI and preferences data with them. Project templates are also a must!
