hi everyone, i just tried to download the updates for platinum and something went wrong. after initializing the update it seemed fine however, when it finished i got an error telling me it didn't install correctly. then my sonar icon changed on my desktop i couldn't start sonar, i was able to start it using the menu but it took forever to load also an error popped up telling me many plugins didn't load.
i tried a system restore, twice, both times failed.
before i call tech support at the store i got sonar from and/or geek squad to roll back the computer i wanted to check with you guys because whenever any tech support gets involved it's 2 hours of crap.
does anyone have any ideas?
thanks
jp

I had several "did not complete properly" errors when trying to load from the Command Center. I went into my Cakewalk account, downloaded from one of the mirror sites (I think it was the #2 one), and all was well.

It sounds like a dropped connection or a corrupt download, its happened to me before.

hey man, things are such a mess, i reinstalled the update and what i got was a new entire version of sonar. with 2 new icons on my desktop. when i start sonar from my original icon a lot of my plugins don't load. as you can see they are in the "excluded" file. i have no idea what's going on. what i would really like to do is uninstall the new updates because most of them are things i'll never use, like the touch screen crap. fingerprints on my LCD make me nuts. i would appreciate any thoughts you have. i just want to go back in time 2 days and start over. if you can figure out how to go back in time please let me know because i really want to go back to 1972 and start over.
again, thanks so much
jp

It seems like you're missing some Windows components. I noticed you are on build 10240. This was the very first release of Windows 10, and is over 2 years old. Microsoft itself has stated that there was no designated release to manufacturing build of Windows 10, 10240. There have been a HUGE number of updates since then and many of them were designed to fix various incompatibilities, update libraries, etc. Mainstream support for it ended on May 9.

I highly recommend doing a system restore to before you updated SONAR, assuming it will let you. When it does or not, the next step would be to bring Windows up to date. Finally, re-install SONAR. I have a feeling that will solve your problems.

I agree with Craig. Especially on the libraries. MS libraries are critical in order for Sonar to run properly.
Also, if its hanging on Antares (Mic mod EFX=Antares) as it shows in your pic, you also want to run it in compadability mode. As a test, try not to use the VST3 plug in, stick with the VST 2.

hi gentlemen, i'm still working on this. it seems now i can run sonar properly, however, some of the normal, everyday plugins are not loading. i found them in the "excluded" part of plugin manager. how do i get them back where they belong?
i'm very confused.
i'm also not clear on what ANDERTON said about the windows 10 updates. how do i correct that?
i had those geek squad people on the phone for an hour and a half trying to figure out how to do a system restore. they hadn't a clue which is surprising.

In Windows settings, under Update and Security, click on Windows Update and with your computer connected to the internet, click on Check for Updates. It will likely be a really big download due to all the changes since the first version of Windows, so you might want to do it before going to a movie or something.

Because it's such an old version, after doing the updates check again as there might be some additional updates that required having the first set of updates installed...at least Vista worked that way if you were trying to update a really old version.

Earlier versions of Sonar and Windows had an "admin rights" issue. I suggest installing with "Run as Admin". That used be required and could very well be related to the particular legacy Windows you're running.

hi everyone, thank you to everyone who helped me out. now, this is the question of the day. why does cakewalk change things without telling anyone? what happened after the update was one of the "fix's" seems to be changing the way to find plugins. example, click on add FX then channel strip, then i always had 3  things to choose now there is only one. however, when i click on "uncategorised" there i find PX-64 percussion strip (2 of them) and VX-64 vocal strip (2 of them).
i don't know what they did but things are a real mess.
i'm posting this here and i'm sending to cakewalk.
if there is any way i can undo the last sonar update i would be happy to know. i want it back to where it worked great, not what i have now.
