So exactly how does this work???
Do you open Melodyne then start recording in comp mode takes OR do you record a clip, THEN open Melodyne and start recording in comp mode? A brief tutorial (video) would be helpful!!!

Until a recorded clip exists, Melodyne has nothing to work on.

So the obvious answer is record first.

RIGHT!! Isn't this how it has always worked? So what's "new" about this comping feature that they've added?

I haven't tried this out yet but I think you can edit the actual Melodyne, (non-bounced), clips the way you would during regular comping.  Someone please correct me if this is incorrect.

I typically do all of my comping prior to any tuning but I can see the usefulness in this improvement.

previously you could only use Melodyne on the Parent track, not the takes.
Make sense ?

I've used Melodyne on "Take Lanes" forever.  Maybe I'm not understanding.

how did you comp them though.. after you used Melodyne on them ?

Creating the perfect take just got better in SONAR. It is now possible to comp with clips that use Melodyne as well as any other type of Region FX.

The new T+M Mag has a pretty good explanation of what the new feature provides:

I have tried this melodyne comping feature and the problem is it still does not mute melodyne takes when recording new takes.
Now you can add melodyne to a long take or to several takes and comp right over them. It is a great feature except when recording new takes melodyne still plays unmuted; it is distracting.

I'm not sure that having multiple takes and using Melodyne belong to the same strategy.

If I have multiple takes, I can edit them into what I want for timing/pitch.

If I record one take (lazily) or if I manually comp many takes down to one, then it can be Melodyne time.

So I'm hoping to learn another workflow idea, if there is a better way!

cheers,
