Haven't figured out how to thank guitarhacker on the forum, but thanks, your solution was right on.
 
Now another new issue I never had with MC4 or at first with MC6.  I can record and play back a midi track through my digital piano, but when I insert the Cakewalk soft synth and playback through my sound system, the playback skips notes, pedals, sometimes entire chords and measures.  I was messing with the synth rack and think I have restored the default settings to no avail.  Windows XP, plenty of memory and processor speed (or at least it used to be).  Any suggestions?  thanks

You may need to adjust the "Playback using nnn millisecond buffers" setting in Preferences > MIDI > Playback and Recording. The default 250 may be too small, try 500 or 750.
